Gallery Opening on December 6, 2019 from 5-8 PM. Show will hang in the Main Gallery through the month of January, 2020.

Since the 1960s, people in Missoula have cultivated a local rock scene that has become an important part of the fabric of the city. This historical exhibit explores how musicians, venue managers, journalists, and record store owners built institutions and pushed against conventions, paving the way for a vibrant local music scene. It emphasizes the important work and experience of women and native people. Missoula’s milieu drew musicians in and served as a launching pad for careers, both musical and non-musical. The memories and legacies of past musical venues, scenes and events remain strong in the city today.

The exhibit is the work of University of Montana students who conducted research and oral history interviews before writing and designing the exhibit panels.
