The ZACC is delighted to exhibit Line, Shape, Form, & Friends – sculptural works by John Thompson, Adrian Hoye, Renda Greene, Joe Boddy, and Marlys Boddy. The artists’ works will use a variety of mediums, each expressing their unique vision and approach to creating three dimensional art.

John Thompson sees art as the richest expression of who and what we are and the culture we come from. He began his study of art majoring in printmaking at the University of North Dakota. His sculpture life began 30 years ago with his ponies and dragons that were destined to become part of the Carousel for Missoula. Whether in wood or stone, John still continues to share his fantastic creations and his love of art with the Missoula community.

Renda Greene describes herself as “a regular person”. Renda is a graduate of the University of Montana with a BFA and BA in elementary education. Traveling and work vacations have been invaluable to her as an artist. She is a member of the NorthWest Stone Sculptors Association and attended many of their symposiums. Renda is an eclectic and talented woman with fingers in many pots.

Adrian Hoye’s contribution to the world of art actually began in the building trade as a master craftsman and creative builder. The skills he developed were combined with his current talent for creating three dimensional sculptures in stone. His life experiences led him to gain a deep appreciation for discarded items and he enjoys finding ways to give them new life as art. His current work focuses on simplistic forms, color and texture. He believes that his art is best enjoyed by sight and touch.

Marlys Boddy earned her degree in Fine Art from MSU where she met and married Joe, a fellow art student. While their three children were growing, she wrote and published two children’s books while pursuing her love of clay. She began showing her sculpture in 2001 and has since exhibited in numerous juried shows throughout the country, winning several prestigious awards. Her work is in private collections in the US and abroad. Marlys is an elected member of the National Sculpture Society in New York and a Signature Member of the American Women Artists. She is represented by the Vickers Gallery in Vail, Colorado. Whether whimsical or serious, Marlys’s art is inspired by the features and expressions that make each of us unique.

Joe Boddy realized, after an art degree and a few years doing graphic design, that drawing pictures for a living was his goal – and New York City was the place to make that happen. Dozens of portfolio submissions and phone calls eventually paid off with forty years as a freelance illustrator for 27 major publishing clients, three art reps, demanding art directors, and challenging work with nice fees. Joe has now happily moved into fine art where he spends peaceful hours doing line drawings, photography, sculpture, and new media. His contemporary sculptures are represented by the Mirada Gallery in Denver, Colorado.
