In Kim’s words:

“Sometimes, not knowing why something comes about is the best catalyst for making it come to fruition … Also through this process, I have determined that much of artmaking is really about deep intense questions, thought, and in this case, mourning.

On September 2, 2020, my only sibling’s life came to a sad end. Eleven years my junior, Ginny was a shining star in my life. We loved each other to pieces even though we lived across country from one another (me in Missoula and she in Greensboro, NC). I want everyone to know that she died of a drug overdose of Fentanyl and Cocaine because it is important to not stigmatize this ongoing epidemic in our country. However, I know there is far more to this sisterly love story than words can ever come close to conveying. I, on my own since September, have been working on this show to tell our story. I hope you see it as a detailed and empathic process involving telling her important story through art as only art can deliver.”

Kim, sister and art therapist, has used this process primarily to deal with the death of Ginny, to communicate to her after death through art, and to grieve.

Ginny created this art throughout her life. She was such an intuitive artist that kept creating through all the hard times of drug addiction, mental illness, and trauma. She used art in the same way I do and both of us in many of the same ways I do with the people I treat in art therapy. I want to share the collective and re-creative process to show you her talent and love through our combined creativity and expression.

Pieces are labeled as either Ginny, Kim, or as collaborative. Our mother and I dubbed her “The Sleeping Fox” after her death in honor of a peaceful image we have of her now and her beloved favorite wild animal. She is my sleeping fox now.
