JUNE 2026: REAL IMAGINARY PLACES
Real Imaginary Places - The Mixtape is a collection of pieces from volumes 1, 2 and 3 of Real Imaginary Places.
What the hell is a Real Imaginary Place? It is an invitation to the viewer to take a moment, slow down and let their curiosity wander. To ask questions, like, ‘What is this?’, ‘Where is this place?’, and ‘What do I want for dinner?’ To take a moment and think ‘Well, I could do that.’ or ‘Well that’s neat.’ and hopefully inspire you to make something cool for you.
I made this series because, well, vague gesture at everything, and Real Imaginary Places gave me an outlet to think about fun ‘what ifs’. Like, ‘what if there was a giant glass monolithic cube structure floating over a forest of purple trees? That’d be pretty wild.’
Real Imaginary Places is joined by the ‘Be Kind and Make Cool Shit’ project. And both are just my efforts to make the world a little kinder, a little more colorful, and a little more curious.
Rob Truax is a 3D/2D Digital Artist. Inspired by the works of Mother Nature, and Miyazaki (you can pick which one), books like Monk and Robot and Lord of the Rings (obviously), as well as anyone who is trying to make anything that makes the world a little bit better. He aims to create art that allows the viewer to take a break and explore Real Imaginary Places which is coincidentally the name of this series.
When Rob isn’t making art, he is starting many projects, like restoring an old van, building Gunpla, tending bonsai, or building Lego, while his wife watches Twin Peaks or reads some ‘Good for Her’ horror. He is often out walking their dog Pixel, or petting their cat Ullr till he drools.
You can find Rob on Instagram (@robtruax1) where he posts art and pictures of pets. If you’ve read this far thank you, and if you're so inclined feel free to reach out and tell him about your favorite pasta shape and sauce combination. Or don’t. I’m a piece of paper, you’re not honor bound to listen to me.
Be Kind and Make Cool Shit, Friends.
