The ZACC is proud to present ‘Saw Blade’, works by Nancy Rishoff, in the Blackfoot Communications Gallery through the month of November, opening on First Friday, November 4 from 5 to 8 PM.

In Nancy’s own words:
“It all started when I received a bunch of rusty old saw blades from my sister. They sat dormant until 3 years ago, when during the pandemic, I had the time to ponder them. I used acrylic paint on the first of them … and soon it was an obsession. I tried different techniques, wanting to get the most life out of the pointy sides covered in Rust-Oleum. It was quite a process figuring out ways to cover the hole in the middle of the saw, and figuring out a way to hang them.

During the pandemic, this obsession kept revving. I was always on the hunt for what I could paint next (on a saw). As time went on, I started selling them at the Missoula Peoples’ Market, and eventually started taking commissions. I was recently commissioned to paint two different 4 ½ ft saw blades. And by the time I finished those, my imagination was in overdrive – from tipis to steam boats coming down the Missouri river!

Upcycled art is fun and a great way to express yourself, and has me looking at the world in a whole different way than I had before.”
