Getting Excited for the Holidays (w/ Heather the Elf)

Know someone who needs a little extra cheer this year? Personally, I think we all do – so as the ZACC’s Official Holiday Elf I’m starting this holiday season early! I’m sure some of you are thinking, “wait, does Santa know she’s doing this?”. To this I say, “don’t worry!”. Santa and I are friends, so we chatted and not only is he on board, he’s full of great ideas on how to make the ZACC extra special (but still safe) after this extra-long not-as-fun-as-the-holidays year.

Friends & Family Gallery Show (Submissions Due November 21)
Santa’s first suggestion is to get yourself into the holiday spirit by making a piece of art for this year’s Friends & Family Gallery Show! Santa has told us in years past that the Friends & Family Show is his most favorite gallery show of the year. Why? Because there’s no limit to what you’ll see. This show represents a wide variety of media and price points, and the pieces are created by artists of all ages. Just let us know you’d like to participate by November 21 by registering via our Submittable page. Easy as pumpkin pie!

Parade of Lights & Festival of the Trees (November 26 - December 5)
We had so much fun decorating trees for Santa’s visit last year, we couldn’t help but say “YES!” when the Missoula Downtown Partnership asked us to participate in the 2021 Festival of the Trees. This year’s festival starts Friday, November 26 and ends Sunday, December 5. Because elves like to share, we’ll have a lil’ extra special something on display during this time and one lucky raffle winner will be able to take that lil’ something special to their own home or office!

Holiday Classes (Beginning November 26)
Speaking of sharing, I’ve asked my fellow ZACC Elves to share their holiday spirit and knowledge with you this holiday season by way of Holiday Art Classes! We’ll have classes focused on fused glass, dried florals, wreaths, beeswax luminaries, wool felting, printmaking, and more. Our first class is scheduled for Black Friday, November 26 – so instead of going out and fighting the masses, you can indulge in some ‘me time’ while also creating beautiful things to give away as gifts ... or to keep for yourself – we won’t tell and neither will Santa.

Small Business Saturday (November 27)
Stop by the ZACC on Small Business Saturday, November 27! Missoula is filled with talented artists who have been busy crafting various goodies from their own workshop to fill the ZACC Artist Shop. Santa and his elves love supporting fellow artists and encourage you to come in and grab a homemade gift or two (or three, or four, or more).

Paint-Your-Own-Pottery Santa Delivery (December 18 & 19)
I know I’m supposed to be talking about November, but I’m just SO EXCITED to see Santa and I know you are, too. Turns out Santa had so much fun riding around delivering pottery to family and friends in the ZACC’s new van last year, he asked if he could do it again! So mark your calendars because starting December 1 any* pottery orders placed online are eligible for FREE Santa delivery December 18 or 19. (*Please note that Santa does have a schedule to keep, so there are limitations. Be sure to check out our website for full details.)

Holiday Open House (December 3)
While you’re marking your calendar, be sure to add the ZACC’s Holiday Open House happening December 3 starting at 5 PM. This all-ages event will have something for everyone – BYOT(shirt) printmaking demos, hands-on art making, live musical performances, and Santa selfie stations with awesome life-size Santa cut-outs. (Trust us – we’re dying to see the big guy in-person too, but Santa’s safety is a top priority so Santa’s Selfie Stations are back!)

Looking at all this holiday goodness makes me so excited and I can’t wait for you all to come enjoy the magic with us!
