X-WR-CALDESC:Gallery Opening on First Friday\, December 2\, 2022\, 5-8 PM\n
Exhibiting in the Blackfoot Communications Gallery through end of December
\n\nThe ZACC is thrilled to present new sculptural works by Melissa Thomps
on in our Blackfoot Communications Gallery for the month of December\, ope
ning First Friday\, December 2 from 5 to 8 PM. Melissa recently received a
n MA in Prosthetic Effects from Falmouth University in Cornwall\, England.
She has been working with some fun materials that bring an added element
of realism to her sculptures\, helping to pull them into our world seeming
ly from a more mystical realm.\n\nABOUT MELISSA THOMPSON\n“After graduatin
g with a BFA in drawing from UM in 1996\, I apprenticed for tattoo. I have
been tattooing now for 21 years\, and have been learning many other art m
ediums on my own in the meantime. One of my favorite mediums is felt\, and
my feltwork has absorbed lots of other mediums to become creatures. Keepi
ng the feltwork as the anchor to my pieces allows each creature to be made
from a variety of materials without loosing the common look of my work. I
recently worked for and received my MA in Prosthetics from Falmouth Unive
rsity in Cornwall\, England. I studied prosthetics in order to push my cre
atures further and myself further\, and I am very excited to return to Mon
 tana with my new skills.”
