Zootown Arts Community Center and SPARK! Any Given Child Missoula present
2018 MISSOULA MONSTER PROJECT
NEEDED: Artists looking to collaborate with Missoula’s Kindergartners on original Monster Art
Zootown Arts Community Center (ZACC) and SPARK!/ Any Given Child Missoula team up once again to showcase the Fourth Annual Missoula Monster Project. Originally conceived by nine year-old Asa Smetanka, this show is a collaboration between children and adult artists, working together to create “monster art” based on monsters dreamed up by Missoula kindergarteners. Kindergarten classes from three Missoula County public schools have created original monster drawings. Now, we will assign each adult artist a child’s monster to interpret, using his/her own unique style and medium. The results will be displayed in a September 14th art show, featuring both the original child-drawn monsters and the artists’ works.
If you want to make a monster, please sign up early as monsters go quickly. After you submit, a child's monster and its characteristics will be emailed to you for you to interpret in your own artistic style.
SIZE: Pieces can be 8" by 8" (or smaller). This INCLUDES the frame. NO EXCEPTIONS. Your piece will be disqualified if it is too large. There will be over 400 pieces in the show.
READY TO HANG: Pieces must be ready to hang. If it is 2D then there MUST be a wire on the back. If it is 3D you must provide a shelf that can attached to the wall and bear the weight of your piece.
DEADLINE: Please drop your piece off to the ZACC between August 1st and August 15th.
COMMIT: Remember that the child who drew the monster you are making a rendition of is very excited to see your piece. By signing up you have committed to this project.
RECEIVING YOUR MONSTER EMAIL: Participating artists can expect to receive their monster information via email on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday. We appreciate your patience during this process!
MONSTER PROCEEDS: By participating in the Missoula Monster Project, artists agree to donate their physical monster and 100% of the proceeds from any sale. I.E. Monsters who are not adopted during the show will not be returned to artists, but will still be utilized to raise money for youth art programming at future events.
